SDG 11 - Sustainable Cities and Communities

Extreme poverty is often concentrated in urban areas. National and local governments strive to accommodate an increasing population in these areas. Making cities safe and sustainable means providing safe and accessible housing and transforming slums. It also means investing in public transportation, creating public green spaces, as well as improving urban planning and management to be both participatory and inclusive.

WHAT WE DO?

In the “Bizim Şehir” (“Our City”) Project carried out with the collaboration between the Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning and Hacettepe Technopolis Technology Transfer Center, members of our Faculty of Engineering are carrying out a pilot study to build an eco-friendly, energy efficient, technological and green city with smart buildings, and which respects the local ecology as well as the environment.

Members of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, and Local Administrations Application and Research Center take part in the “Strengthening the Social Dimension of Urban Transformation Projects in the Preparation and Implementation Process”, which is a national project sponsored by the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization on urban transformation in Turkey.
