Hacettepe University supports women’s participation in academic fields where they are underrepresented, particularly science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). This commitment is reflected in the University’s Gender Equality Action Plan and supported by educational activities, research and career development events.

Hacettepe University’s Gender Equality Action Plan (2022–2026) includes measures to support female students in STEM fields.
Action 4.7 provides for training activities aimed at female students in these fields. The Center for Sustainable Teaching and Learning (STL) is identified as the responsible unit, with the number of participating students included as an annual monitoring indicator.
This action establishes an institutional framework for supporting women’s participation and progression in STEM education.

On 14 May 2024, Hacettepe University’s Center for Sustainable Teaching and Learning (STL) organised a seminar titled “Encouraging Talented Girls to Step into STEM Careers”.
The seminar focused on encouraging girls to consider educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. It represents a specific activity supporting the University’s efforts to increase women’s interest in fields where they are underrepresented.

Hacettepe University’s Women’s Research and Implementation Center (HÜKSAM) undertook a study titled “Investigation of STEM Career and Gender-Related Attitudes and Problems of Female Students Studying at Hacettepe University Faculties of Science and Engineering”.
The research examines female students’ attitudes towards STEM careers and the challenges they encounter in science and engineering education. Ethical approval was obtained, and the completion of data collection was reported in HÜKSAM’s activity report.
The study may help identify barriers affecting women’s participation in STEM education and inform future institutional activities.

- Women and Career – Glow Up (2025)
On 25 November 2025, Hacettepe University’s Career Development Application and Research Center (KARMER), in collaboration with the IEEE Student Branch, organised the “Women and Career – Glow Up” event.
The event brought together women professionals from different sectors, including technology, to share their career experiences with students. It provided an opportunity for students to learn about women’s professional experiences and career paths.
Although the event was not specifically an undergraduate admissions initiative, it complemented the University’s wider activities supporting women’s career development and visibility in professional fields.
