10.6.9 – Does your university as a body provide access schemes for people with disabilities?

Hacettepe University provides structured access schemes to ensure that students with disabilities can fully participate in academic and campus life. The Disabled Student Unit coordinates institutional support, assesses individual needs, and prepares adaptation plans in collaboration with faculties, programme coordinators and administrative units. Each academic department appoints disabiled student counselors  to maintain regular communication with students and support the implementation of required adaptations; the updated list of advisors is publicly available on the Disabled Student Unit’s website.

At Hacettepe University, a dedicated Disabled Student Unit provides support services to facilitate the learning experiences and social participation of students with disabilities. The unit works with registered students with special needs (ÇÖZGER/ESKR) and, based on individual interviews and assessments, collaborates with the Registrar’s Office, the Department of Health, Culture and Sports, faculty advisors and department chairs to resolve identified problems.

Students may request accommodations through an established application procedure, including alternative-format course materials, exam arrangements, assistive technologies, transportation support and counselling services. Part-time student assistants working within the Disabled Student Unit provide one-to-one support, helping students with disabilities both in their academic work and in navigating daily campus life.

Hacettepe University also undertakes efforts to remove architectural barriers and enhance physical accessibility across its campuses. All services, procedures and application mechanisms are publicly available on the university’s website.

From the moment students with disabilities first enrol at the university, all procedures they are required to follow are provided to them through a clear workflow chart. This information is also publicly available on the Disabled Student Unit’s website, ensuring transparent and accessible guidance for all students.

The university’s Psychological Counseling Unit is open to all students and offers free support services upon request.
