SDG 10 - Reduced Inequalities

10.6.5 – Does your university as a body have a diversity and equality committee, office and/or officer (or the equivalent) tasked by the administration or governing body to advise on and implement policies, programmes, and trainings related to diversity, equity, inclusion and human rights on campus?

Hacettepe University demonstrates its institutional commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion through various commissions, committees and support units that develop policies, guide implementation processes and provide services for disadvantaged or under-represented groups. The main university-wide structures operating in this field include:

• Gender Equality Commission:
Established by the University Senate, this commission develops and implements policies to strengthen gender equality, conducts data-driven monitoring, and coordinates awareness-raising activities. It is responsible for preparing and overseeing the Hacettepe University Gender Equality Action Plan (2022–2026).

This commission coordinates academic, psychological, social and administrative support mechanisms for students, ensuring their wellbeing and safeguarding needs are addressed. It monitors its activities and reports findings to the university administration through regular evaluation processes.

• Disabled Support Unit and Disabled Student Counselors:
The unit provides academic, physical and social support to students with disabilities, including accessibility arrangements, exam accommodations, counselling, material support and awareness activities. Each faculty has an appointed Disability Student Advisor, whose contact information is publicly available. All services operate under an official directive, ensuring equal participation of students with disabilities in academic life.

The lists of faculty-level Disabled Student Counselors are publicly available on the Disability Support Unit’s website.

Together, these structures illustrate Hacettepe University’s institutional commitment to creating an inclusive, non-discriminatory and equitable learning environment, and to ensuring that under-represented groups are supported through planned and coordinated actions.
