Hacettepe University has various institutional arrangements and support mechanisms that strengthen women’s access to education, management and academic life. In order to reveal the current situation of the university in terms of gender equality; decision-making mechanisms, distribution of management staff, number of students, academic and administrative staff, projects, courses and theses with gender themes, student societies, patents and documents, assignment and mobility categories were examined; within this framework, a Gender Action Plan has been created. In this context:
- Institutional structures (commissions, coordination units) to promote gender equality are actively working:
Hacettepe University Gender Equality Commission
- Policies and practices aimed at increasing the representation of women at academic, administrative and student levels are carried out. - Systematic data analysis is carried out to evaluate women’s access to education, management and decision-making processes (student and staff distributions, management levels, course/thesis contents, projects, mobility data, etc.). - Hacettepe University Women’s Research and Implementation Center (HUWRIC) carries out education, awareness and research activities in the fields of gender equality, women’s empowerment and combating violence against women. The mission of the center; to raise awareness against women’s issues and gender discrimination, to guide the placement of a “gender equality perspective” in the studies, researches, plans and programs carried out, to support the studies carried out with this perspective, to make publications, to develop collaborations with national and international organizations and to carry out advocacy activities.
Women and Gender Studies Master’s Program
The Women and Gender Studies Master’s Program with Thesis, carried out at Hacettepe University, is an important access mechanism that supports women’s access to academic life and specialization in the field of gender. The program was created with the aim of enabling women to gain competence in gender equality, women’s rights, social policy and egalitarian academic production; strengthens female students’ access to academic advancement, research experience and professional development opportunities.
