5.3.4 – Does your university as a body encourage applications by women in subjects where they are underrepresented?

Hacettepe University carries out various activities to encourage women’s orientation towards academic fields, especially in terms of STEM and gender underrepresentation.

In this context:

STL organized a training titled “Encouraging Talented Girls to Step into STEM Careers” and supported girls’ STEM awareness.

Within the scope of the special quota determined by YÖK, an additional quota has been provided for women over the age of 34 who do not have the opportunity to access the university. Hacettepe University has promoted women’s access to education by accepting .. female students in 2024.

  • HUWRIC & MEDISEP –  I. Women’s Symposium (March 9, 2024) In this symposium organized for university students, awareness was raised on issues such as women’s health, gender and career development.

  • HUWRIC Panel – Women’s Human Rights and Combating Violence (March 6, 2024):

The panels titled “Violence Against Women in Terms of Women’s Human Rights” and “Economic Violence and Women’s Empowerment” were held as empowering for female students and staff.

 

  • HUWRIC Research – Women Students in STEM Fields (Ethics-Approved Study) The research titled “Investigation of STEM Career and Gender-Related Attitudes and Problems of Female Students Studying at Hacettepe University Faculties of Science and Engineering” was initiated by HUWRIC. Official ethical permission was obtained for the study and the data collection process was completed. This research aims to understand the orientation of women to STEM fields and to develop remedial policy.
