Cooperation Protocol Between Hacettepe University and Yuvam Dünya Association

A cooperation protocol has been signed between Hacettepe University and Yuvam Dünya Association to encourage and develop mutual cooperation and common understanding. Within the scope of this protocol, it is aimed to draw a common framework in awareness, education, research and implementation activities to be carried out on the climate crisis.

Cooperation Protocol Between Hacettepe University and Hayat Holding

After the earthquake in Turkey, a cooperation protocol was signed between Hacettepe University and Hayat Holding in order to shape corporate and social responsibility projects in the fields of providing care and psycho-social support in the field of health to the people living in the earthquake zone (children, adults and the elderly), conducting geological and ecological studies in the earthquake zone and sharing the results of the study with the public. as a result of this cooperation, the Life Good Life Center was put into operation.

• Special Jury Award for the “Hayat Good Life Center”

Established in Malatya Samanköy and serving as Turkey’s largest container settlement, the “Hayat Good Life Center” was granted the Jury Special Award at the 15th Corporate Responsibility Summit, organized by the Turkish Corporate Responsibility Association on March 5, 2024, in Istanbul.

• Earthquake awareness from Hacettepe University Social Work Department students

Hacettepe University Social Work Department students made a difference with their social service practices and TÜBİTAK research in Malatya Container City after the earthquakes in Kahramanmaraş. Our students, who took an active role in Malatya Container City in the “Life Good Life Center” project carried out in cooperation with our university and Hayat Holding, strengthened their field experiences with academic knowledge thanks to their TÜBİTAK research.

These studies, carried out under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Yasemin Özkan, a faculty member of our university, not only reinforced the knowledge and skills of the students, but also enabled the students to make a stronger contribution to the post-disaster trauma, crisis management and solidarity processes with ethical and solution-oriented approaches in disaster conditions. In the TÜBİTAK research conducted under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Yasemin Özkan, Head of the Department of Social Work, our students responded to the psychosocial needs of individuals affected by the earthquake, aiming to reduce trauma and increase resilience, aiming to achieve social benefit.

Faculty Members of the Department of Social Work stated that these meaningful studies carried out after the earthquake are a very valuable gain for both students and the field of social work; He states that it makes significant contributions to social solidarity, recovery and reconstruction processes.

First Prize in the “Design the Sustainable Future” Competition

Sudenaz Dağlıoğlu, Sıla Çelik, Esmanur İleri, students of the Department of Chemistry, Mihriban Şener from the Department of International Relations, and Elif Turan, a student of Gazi University, participated in the “Design the Sustainable Future” competition with the theme of “Biomimicry” organized by Rönesans Holding for the ninth time; They won the first place in the “Innovative Idea and Detail” category with their projects that they created by blending biology and chemistry disciplines and cleaned microplastics in water resources.

Hacettepe University Genomics and Rare Diseases Application and Research Center

Hacettepe University Genomics and Rare Diseases Application and Research Center (HÜGEN) operates in order to use the genomics technologies infrastructure effectively in the field of rare diseases, to obtain the basic findings of early diagnosis and new treatment methods, and to transform research in the field of health into personal treatment and innovation activities.

• Hand in Hand for Rare

The “Hand in Hand for Rare” meeting, organized in cooperation with Hacettepe University Genomics and Rare Diseases Application and Research Center (HÜGEN), Hacettepe University Stem Cell Research and Application Center (PEDi-STEM) and Rare Diseases Federation, was held on May 29 at the Sıhhiye Campus.

Sessions on “current situation in rare diseases, overview”, “rare diseases-public health”, “rare diseases-registration systems” and “coordination and awareness between stakeholders in rare diseases” were held with the participation of speakers from our university faculty members, the Ministry of Health, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Federation of Rare Diseases.

As a result of the speeches, in which the importance of stakeholders coming together and working together was emphasized, it was decided to continue existing collaborations strongly and to lay the foundations of new collaborations through this meeting.

After the opening speeches, the meeting continued with panels titled “The Importance of Individualized Treatment in Rare Diseases: Saving the Patient”, “Rare Diseases in Terms of National Health Policies”, “Rare Diseases National Health Strategy and Action Plan”, “Access to Treatment in Rare Diseases”, “Studies on the Establishment of Centers of Excellence in the Field of Rare Diseases”, “TÜSEB R&D Support Strategies and Project Calls in the Field of Rare Diseases”.

Hacettepe Signature in the Earthquake Resistant Building Design Competition

Students of the Department of Civil Engineering of our university; Ahmet Yasin Özgülcan, Atakan Cem Doğan, Burak Çiftci and Harun Öztürk achieved a great success under the leadership of their Project Consultant Prof. Dr. Baki Öztürk.

The team from Hacettepe successfully represented our university in the Earthquake Resistant Building Design (DASK2024) Competition, hosted by Gaziantep Hasan Kalyoncu University and attended by 24 universities from all over Turkey.

The team, which participated in the competition with the “Beytepe Hotel” project and set out with the motto “Solid Buildings, Further for a Strong Future, For the Best!”, won the “Best Architecture Special Award” in the grand final after months of work.

With the “Earthquake Resistant Building Design Competition”, which was held for the 7th time this year by the Natural Catastrophe Insurance Institution (TCIP), it is aimed to train the architects and civil engineers of the future with earthquake awareness.

Sustainable Development Certificate Program for Climate Change

Being a party to the Paris Climate Agreement, long-term strategies to reduce climate change and in line with the needs of the environment and society in line with the binding articles of the Green Deal Agreement and 2050 targets in Europe need to be developed. These strategies are not only considered environmentally or economically, but are considered in a holistic approach in the light of sustainable development goals. It is emphasized that there should be radical changes in all sectors, taking into account the dimensions of climate change and future predictions. These changes should be made in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and under the leadership of experts in the subject. As a specialization certificate program, it is aimed that the participant understands the Sustainable Development Goals correctly, makes medium and long-term plans in accordance with these goals, and spreads this perspective to their whole life.

Children Discovered Biodiversity in Hacettepe

The “Biodiversity and Climate Change Awareness Project” was carried out by the Social Contribution Coordinatorship of our university at İhsan Doğramacı Children’s Hospital in order to provide inclusive and qualified education to children among disadvantaged groups.

Within the scope of the project, children were trained in various methods in the playrooms in different parts of the hospital and in the primary school class of the hospital. Information about biodiversity and climate change was conveyed to children by using methods such as verbal information, individual and group games, and art activities.

In this process, the content provided by the Ministry of National Education was used, as well as images and videos taken from the TEMA Foundation and other sources were used. Children were enabled to reinforce what they learned with puzzles, painting activities and computer games.

With this project, children’s awareness of biodiversity and climate change; It is aimed to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills for a sustainable world in the future.
